Doors and windows are the most underappreciated elements in residential design. They define the connection between inside and outside, between one room and another. When done thoughtfully, they transform how a home feels. When done poorly, they create a visual and functional disconnect that no amount of furniture can fix.
Your front door is the first and last thing every guest experiences. It sets the tone for everything inside. At Design Concept, we design main doors as architectural statements — using materials like pivot-hung solid timber, powder-coated aluminium frames with glass inserts, or engineered stone panels that announce arrival with quiet confidence.
The most exciting development in contemporary residential architecture is the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass system. When fully open, the boundary between indoor and outdoor living simply disappears. Folding systems achieve a similar effect with greater flexibility — panels fold neatly to one or both sides, creating openings of almost any width.
Both systems require precision engineering. Track tolerances, weatherproofing, glass weight distribution — these are not off-the-shelf products. Design Concept works with European and Indian manufacturers who specialise in bespoke large-format systems.
Aluminium frames offer superior strength-to-weight ratio, allowing thinner profiles and larger glass panels. They are also more durable and recyclable. uPVC frames provide excellent thermal insulation at a lower cost, making them a practical choice for windows where thermal performance matters more than visual slimness.
For most luxury residential projects, aluminium is the material of choice for doors and uPVC for secondary windows — but every project is assessed individually.
The glass itself is a design decision. Tinted glass reduces heat gain. Frosted glass provides privacy without blocking light. Double or triple glazing dramatically reduces noise and improves energy efficiency. Smart glass, which transitions from clear to opaque at the touch of a button, is increasingly specified in master bedrooms and bathrooms.
